IntoUniversity runs several internship schemes to provide young people with vital experience of educational delivery. Our interns help us to plan and deliver our Academic Support, FOCUS and Mentoring schemes in order to help sustain our program.
Graduate Entry Internship:
Our Graduate-entry IntoUniversity Internship programme has three entry points (September 2009, January 2010 and April 2010). The deadline has now passed for the September intake, however we will be advertising for the January starters later on this year. The internships are for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months.
The IntoUniversity Graduate Interns will gain a broad range of experiences within the education charity sector, particularly in planning and project delivery on a variety of our programmes. Through this work, the internship will also provide the opportunity to work daily with children and young people. The interns will not only provide us with much needed support in running our education programme, but will receive the chance to gain stimulating and valuable experience for their C.V. as well as opportunities for personal growth and professional development. Full training and support will be provided.
We are interested in applications from enthusiastic people who are keen to gain experience relevant to future career prospects. Where possible and appropriate, we will offer support to interns looking to move into paid employment in the charity sector – including within our organisation. Applications from candidates whose life experiences may be similar to our users are welcomed. We have places for full-time and part-time internships. All interns will be based in London at one or more of our centres. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
Summer Internship:
The Summer IntoUniversity Interns will join a dynamic staff team working at a thriving educational charity. During the summer we run our weekly FOCUS programme for children and young people aged 8-18 which includes activities such as drama, dance, and carnival arts. We also prepare for the start of the new academic year, developing new learning resource materials. The Summer IntoUniversity Interns will work at our education centres in London. Our Summer Interns need to be enthusiastic, energetic and flexible. They must support the aims of the IntoUniversity educational model. These internships are suitable for school-leavers and undergraduates seeking to gain experience in the summer holidays and last between 1 and 3 months depending on your availability.
Start dates: June 16th 2009, June 30th 2009 and July 28th 2009. - Please note that the deadline has now passed for the Summer 2009 internships.
Mary Jarvis:
This week I will complete a 2 month summer internship at IntoUniversity Lambeth. The time has flown by! The summer internship programme is structured in such a way that ensures that there is opportunity to experience several aspects of the organisation from the planning to the delivery of the charity's varied activities. Therefore it is safe to say that no two days at IntoUniversity are the same.
It has been particularly exciting to have worked with IntoUniversity during this time of expansion. I cannot imagine a better time to learn about the operations of an organisation than this. I feel extremely fortunate to have been given the chance to work here at this time and with this team. My internship with IntoUniversity has made for an extremely rewarding and stimulating summer which I believe will stand me in good stead to enter the graduate world next year.
Helen Reeves:
During my first week at IntoUniversity I spent time in the IU Lambeth centre helping to prepare for the summer FOCUS weeks, most particularly the Lambeth performing arts week. I've also helped to make wall displays, create worksheets for children to complete in the next term and helped out with other general tasks, which has been really interesting to get involved with. I also helped out with the Sports FOCUS week in Brent for two days, where we took a group of children to play baseball, crazy golf and to go on a driving range - they had great fun. On the final day of their sports week we took the children to UCL to have a tour round a real life university, and give them their own special graduation ceremony from the sports week; all the children presented on what they had learnt and the best team from the week won prizes.
