What we do

Dimensions of the IntoUniversity programme

Young people have the opportunity to join our After School Academic Support Programme at an IntoUniversity centre where they receive academic help from trained tutors and volunteers every day during term time and during the Easter and half-term holidays.

Every student on the IntoUniversity scheme may have the opportunity to join our Undergraduate Mentoring Programme. Year 8 pupils may also spend a Buddy Day at Imperial College, learning about university life.

The school curriculum is broken up into disparate units that give little sense of the university experience of concentrated, passionate learning in a specialist area. The IntoUniversity FOCUS Programme offers young people learning experiences which aim to immerse them in a single topic or subject area. It includes: primary school weeks during term time; secondary school half-term weeks; Extending Horizons Weekends; and after-school Careers in FOCUS. All FOCUS provision concludes with a ‘graduation’ ceremony with certificates and a celebration of the young people’s work.

Young people often carry very negative ideas about themselves and their future potential. Using programmes devised by University of the Third Age and The Pacific Institute, we provide Aspire and Achieve training that challenges negative self-perceptions among young people and encourages them to think expansively about the future.
