Who we are

The Team

IU Head Office

Dr Rachel Carr is the Chief Executive of IntoUniversity. Rachel has developed the IntoUniversity Programme at St Clement and St James Community Project and is now leading the development of the IntoUniversity network of new centres. Previously, she lectured in the old and new university sectors in London and was Head of an English Department for five years.

Hugh Rayment-Pickard is our Director of Training, Communications and Planning. He has over 20 years’ experience in the not for profit sector and was one of the founders of IntoUniversity. He will be working to manage our external and internal communications strategy, to develop and implement a management and leadership training programme and to develop the long-term strategic vision for the charity as it moves into its second and third phases of expansion.

Jeff Rubin joined IntoUniversity in August 2009 as Development Officer in Finance. He holds a politics degree from the University of Manchester and is about to complete an MA in International Relations at King’s College London. He previously worked in the finance department of an accountancy firm. He has taught English in Nepal and Costa Rica and obtained a TEFL qualification in Seville, Spain in 2005.

Samantha Bailey has joined the team as Fundraiser. She graduated in 2008 with a degree in English and French from the University of Warwick. She then spent six months in India volunteering for two different charities, working mainly on fundraising and events. Most recently, she has completed an internship at Cancer Research UK, based in their fundraising department.

Gemma Fagbadegun is working as our Development Officer (Media and Administration). Previously she worked in a recruitment consultancy, and she also spent a year teaching in a school in Hong Kong. She graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in English Literature and Language. She was interested in the role as Development Officer as she is looking to gain experience in media, marketing and communications, and has always wanted to work in the voluntary sector.


IU Lambeth

Laura Morley is the Centre Leader at Lambeth. Previously she was Centre Director at an after school maths and English tuition centre. Laura graduated in 2006 with a BSc in Communication and Media from Loughborough University. Laura loves working with all the children and young people who visit IU Lambeth for academic and pastoral support!

Samuel Stone is an Education Worker at IntoUniversity Lambeth. Samuel graduated from the University of Sussex where he received a BA (Hons) in American Studies. Samuel has recently moved to London from Milton Keynes where he has experience working in after school clubs and various other inclusive play settings. Samuel can't wait for the challenges ahead and working with the whole IU team.

Daniella Michaels is an Education Worker at Lambeth. She graduated from Leeds University with a BA in English and Theatre Studies. She has worked with young people as a Drama Facilitator across London in different community settings, including Greenwich Theatre. She enjoys getting stuck in and working with young people in Lambeth!


IU North Kensington

Alex Hanratty is the Deputy Chief Executive of St Clement & St James Community Project and manages the IntoUniversity team at the North Kensington centre. She previously worked as the Centre Director for an after-school maths and English tuition centre and graduated from Leeds University in Italian and Roman Civilisation in 2004.

Ed Cobbold is the Team Leader at IntoUniversity North Kensington and leads the Primary FOCUS programme. He studied Drama at the University of Hull and also has a PGCE in Drama with second subject Music. Ed has also worked as a theatre director and actor.

Hannah Starr has joined the North Kensington centre as an Education Worker. She studied Human Geography at Leeds University and has just completed a degree in Psychology at Oxford Brookes. She has previously worked with young people in academic and community settings both in the UK and abroad, and is enjoying the challenges and rewards of working at IntoUniversity.

Hannah Morphet is an Education Worker at IU North Kensington. She graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, followed by an MSc from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. She has worked in a secondary school and in private tuition for the last couple of years.

Howard Taylor joined IntoUniversity in October 2008 as an Education Worker. He studied Environmental Management at Birmingham University. He currently helps support the Careers in FOCUS Programme at the North Kensington Centre.

Michelle Mangal is an Education Worker and joined the team in January 2009. Michelle has a degree from Durham in Combined Social Sciences and previously worked as mentor and Supported living key worker in East London. She is in charge of the Carnival Arts Programme and Buddy Day Scheme, as well as being an integral part of the Mentoring Scheme. Michelle will also be pioneering our participation in Dance Challenge this year. She is a keen reader and gig goer and writes a music blog in her spare time.


IU Brent

Dan Baker is the IntoUniversity Brent Centre Manager. After graduating from Oxford University in English and French and working as a TEFL teacher in Madrid Dan spent 2 years at IntoUniversity North Kensington developing a particular focus on the Mentoring Scheme. He continues to oversee the Mentoring Scheme across the IntoUniversity network whilst leading the team at IntoUniversity Brent.

Devina Evanson is an Education Worker at IU Brent. Devina graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama with a BA Hons in Drama and Education. She has worked as a Drama Teacher, a teaching assistant and a Youth Worker in London. Devina is very excited to join IntoUniversity and can't wait to meet everyone in Brent.

Rachael Moss is an Education Worker at IU Brent. Since graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in History, Rachael has helped deliver arts programmes for children at the Tower of London and Kensington Palace. She has also enjoyed working for a disability charity and learning sign language. Rachael is looking forward to making a positive difference to the lives of young people in Brent..


IU Hackney South (opening autumn 2009)

Catherine Black is the Centre Leader of IU Hackney South. She graduated in 2006 with degrees in Psychology and Social Work from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, before moving to London. She worked as Team Leader of IU North Kensington before being promoted to lead one of our new centres.

Sophie Priestnall is an Education Worker at IntoUniversity Hackney South and joined the team in September 2009. Before moving to IU, she gained experience working as a teaching assistant in a primary school. She studied Education at Cardiff University and graduated in 2008. Sophie finds her work with children and young people really rewarding.

Rachael Head joined the team in September 2009 as an Education Worker at IU Hackney South. She graduated with a BA Hons in History from the University of Leeds, where she also earned an MA in Race and Resistance, a course focusing on Black International History. Rachael is very interested in widening university participation and is excited about working with young people within a charitable organisation.


IU Haringey North (opening autumn 2009)

Charlotte Medcalf is an Education Worker and joined the team in January 2009. Charlotte has a degree from the University of Kent in Social Anthropology and previously worked as a children and youth worker in Cambridgeshire and Kent. She is a very keen traveller and has visited India, Thailand, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania to undertake a variety of voluntary projects including teaching English and promoting HIV awareness. She helped set up the new centre in Haringey and now can’t wait to get stuck in to delivering all the exciting new programmes.

Anna Jones joined IntoUniversity as an Education Worker in autumn 2009. She has previous experience in teaching English, Creative Writing and Study Skills to students from 5 to 80 years of age. She read English at Cambridge and is studying part-time at Oxford for a Masters in Creative Writing. She is very excited about being based at IntoUniversity Haringey North, and enjoys contributing to the set up and success of the new centre.


IU Bow

Matilda Wallis is an Education Worker at IntoUniversity Bow. She has recently graduated from Durham University with a degree in History. She is very excited about helping to co-ordinate the Mentor Project and FOCUS at IU Bow.

Richard Hughes is an Education Worker at IntoUniversity Bow. Richard graduated from the University of East Anglia where he studied Development Studies BSc. He has worked on youth projects in New Zealand and India. He is a keen squash and football player and snowboarder.

Mary Fok is the Team Leader at IntoUniversity Bow. She previously taught English at a secondary school in North London after completing BA (Hons) in English Studies at the University of Nottingham. Mary is excited to be a part of all the opportunities IntoUniversity offers young people.


Pool workers

Brooke Haines began work at St Clements in Sept 2003 after graduating from the University of Surrey, Roehampton. She graduated with a BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies at Froebel College. She lead the FOCUS programme at the North Kensington centre for four years and has just taken on a new position at IntoUniversity as the Cross Centre and Set-Up Officer. Brooke is very much looking forward to all the new and exciting things IntoUniversity has on offer and the impact this has on young people's lives.

Paul Wiggins joined the team in September 2008 as the first IntoUniversity Cross Centre Education Worker and will be based in both North Kensington and Brent. Paul studied Sociology at the University of Nottingham before going on to work with young people in language schools in Britain and Indonesia.

Zoe Cox is Set up Manager for IntoUniversity. Her role includes helping to identify areas in which there is a need for a new IntoUniversity centre and establishing and running new centres in the startup process. Zoe helped develop the IntoUniversity Programme at St Clement and St James Community Project for five years before initially becoming Centre Manager of IntoUniversity Lambeth. Previously, she worked as an actress and drama teacher for nursery, primary and secondary school students in London.
